In 2002, Audemars Piguet partnered with Ernesto Bertarelli to back his Swiss sailing team, Alinghi. Following the Louis Vuitton Cup regattas, the Alinghi sailboat secured the Challenger title, earning the opportunity to compete against the New Zealand team in the 31st America’s Cup. Alinghi triumphantly crossed the finish line, clinching the prestigious cup in 2003 - not only was this quite a feat for a first attempt at the America's Cup but this was also the first time a European team won. Alinghi followed up with another triumph in 2007 when it won the 32nd America's Cup.

Audemars Piguet remained a partner of the Alinghi team throughout these wins (the team disbanded in 2010 and returned in 2022 as Alinghi Red Bull Racing) and created several watches to honor the relationship. Let's have a look at three Audemars Piguet Alinghi watches that marked an important partnership between luxury Swiss watches and the Swiss sailing team.

Released to commemorate the victory at the 31st America’s Cup, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi America's Cup 2003 Edition ref.25995IP.OO.1000TI.01 is limited to 1,000 pieces. The watch features a 44mm titanium octagonal case, topped with an eight-sided platinum bezel, and fitted with a titanium integrated bracelet.

The sporty tapisserie black dial is home to a dual-time display, a date display, and a power reserve indicator. The date display includes the Alinghi team logo and there are touches of red elsewhere on the dial to match. Of course, this being one of Audemars Piguet Alinghi watches, this commemorative Royal Oak is water-resistant to 100 meters.

Released in 2007 just ahead of the 32nd America's Cup (which Alinghi would go on and win) the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team Chronograph ref. 26062FS.OO.A002CA.01 was one of the brand's most innovative watches at the time. For instance, its forged carbon case was not only a first for AP but also a first for the entire watch industry. The forged carbon case is combined with a crown and pushers in black ceramic, all shrouded in vulcanized rubber.

That ultra-resistant and lightweight case measures 44mm in diameter (the first Royal Oak Offshore to come in that size) and like all Royal Oak Offshore models, it features an exposed gasket beneath the bezel. In honor of the Alinghi team colors, that gasket is red while the hexagonal screws on the bezel were blackened. Another design departure was the dial, which featured the customary tapisserie pattern but only in the center rather than across the entire dial surface, framed by a snailed perimeter.

Designed in honor of regattas, the watch is a flyback chronograph and includes a 10-minute countdown function. What's more, the hands on the counters are shaped like ship prows and there's the Alinghi logo at 3 o'clock. The engraved caseback of the watch includes an incredibly intricate relief of the Alinghi team in action. Under that caseback is the Caliber 2326/2848 automatic movement with about 40 hours of power reserve.

Audemars Piguet offered four versions of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team Chronograph with a total of 2,007 examples across the collection. The forged carbon edition was limited to 1,300 pieces.

The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore Alinghi Team Chronograph ref. 26062OR.OO.A002CA.01 is the same model as the forged carbon but its 44mm case is crafted in 18k rose gold. However, there is still forged carbon in the form of the bezel, punctuated with contrasting hexagonal screws. The gasket is black to match the rest of the watch while the black and red dial includes rose gold hands and indexes to complement the case.

Fitted to the watch is a black rubber strap, furnished with a rose gold buckle. The rose gold caseback includes the same relief depiction and this edition is limited to only 600 pieces.
