Jewelry Repair: Gray & Sons Brought My Daily Diamonds Back to Life
For the second time in ten years, when I opened the box to find my diamond tennis bracelet, it took my breath away. And this time, it was all thanks to Gray & Sons for their jewelry repair service. The first time was a decade ago when my then fiancée gifted me the bracelet just ahead of our wedding day. Once he clasped that beautiful strand of 18k white gold studded with 50 brilliant-cut diamonds around my wrist, I almost never took it off. It joined an 18k white gold bangle with a single diamond that was already on my wrist. That bangle was a going-away gift generously given to me by my ex-colleagues when I left my job a few months earlier to get married and move to another city.
The Daily Diamonds
I wore this pair of white gold and diamond bracelets all the time—in fact, I called them my “daily diamonds”. No matter where I was going, what I was wearing, there were my faithful companions reminding me of my wonderful friends and my amazing husband.
And eight years later, it happened. First the bangle; it snapped right where the two metal pieces curve to meet in the middle around the diamond. Not only was I upset, but I had just recently moved to another city where I didn’t know any jewelers. Then, a couple of weeks later, my diamond tennis bracelet snapped too! I have no idea how it happened, but as I watched it tumble off my wrist onto the floor, my heart broke a little. So now, my daily diamonds that were worn almost every day, sat in a jewelry box, broken and abandoned.
I was so used to seeing them on me all the time, that for a while, every time I glanced at my arm and didn’t see them there, I panicked a little thinking they were lost. Not sure what to do, I asked around for some recommendations for a place to fix them but nobody seemed to have a jeweler that they loved! I also read a couple of Yelp reviews for places around my area, but I wasn’t impressed. In fact, there were some horror stories of lost jewelry and botched jobs that really scared me away. When it comes to jewelry repair, I have super high standards. This is because I spent the majority of my career in the fine jewelry and luxury watch industry.
Master Jewelers
When I worked at a very large watch and jewelry retailer, I had an entire service center with skilled watchmakers and master jewelers at my disposal to service, fix, or refurbish any of my personal watches and jewelry. I use to hang out in that service center and admire these very skilled professionals execute exquisite work on a minuscule scale. So knowing the expertise, knowledge, and care it takes to properly handle and repair jewelry, I couldn’t very well hand over and trust my pieces to just anyone who was deemed “not bad”.
The Gray & Sons Jewelry Repair Experience
Those diamond bracelets that I loved so much remained broken for two years. Until I came across Gray & Sons. Yes, they were on the other side of the country from me—Miami, Florida is a long way from Orange County, California, but their watch and jewelry repair reputation was nationwide. After doing my homework, I decided to take the plunge and have them fix my jewelry pieces.
The entire process was simple, convenient, and pain-free. After I requested an Easy Ship Box from their website, it showed up at my doorstep a few days later. Inside the USPS box was everything I needed to send in my pieces—a smaller box, instructions, forms to fill, labels, and even packing tape! I followed the instructions and brought my box to the post office where I sent it to Gray & Sons using registered mail. A couple days later I received a call (and email) from the Gray & Sons service department, confirming receipt of my box. That was followed up with a quote for the repair—which I might add was very reasonable. After payment details were confirmed with the super friendly staff at Gray & Sons, work began on my jewelry. Less than two weeks later, I got another call from Gray & Sons telling me that everything was done and my repaired jewelry was on the way back.
Jewelry Repair Process
Once I signed for my package, I ripped open the box with excitement. Carefully packaged inside the box were two pouches, each with one of my bracelets. There was also a free jewelry care cloth and a breakdown of the cost and repairs done. One look at my repaired bracelets and I was super happy—they looked new! The work was done so immaculately that you couldn’t tell where they were once broken. Plus, they now shine beautifully because of the cleaning and polishing.
Jewelry Repair: Complete
My bracelets are back on my wrist now and I couldn’t be happier. I’d like to say a big thank you to the Gray and Sons team for bringing my daily diamonds back to life.
