Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Openface
Vacheron Constantin is not only the oldest Swiss watchmaker still in existence today but also one of the most celebrated. So much so, that Vacheron Constantin is a member of the so-called Holy Trinity of Swiss watchmaking, alongside the other two storied watch houses, Patek Philippe and Audemars Piguet.
With credentials like these, it comes as no surprise that everything Vacheron Constantin makes is going to be exceptional. Case in point is our watch of the month, the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Openface, which is a very special watch indeed. Read on as we review the spectacular details of this high horology timepiece.
The Complete Calendar Complication
There are several types of calendar watches, ranging from simple date and day-date to highly complex annual and perpetual calendars. Among these, there is also the complete calendar complication, which shows the day of the week, month, date, and moon phase.
Although a complete calendar is a practical complication to have on a watch, we do not see many of them in modern high-end watches today. Thankfully, Vacheron Constantin continues to make complete calendar timepieces, and it has become somewhat of a signature offering from this renowned watchmaker.
Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Openface Ref. 4020T/000G-B655
Vacheron Constantin released the Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Openface Ref. 4020T/000G-B655 in 2021. While Vacheron Constantin already offered a standard Traditionelle Complete Calendar in its catalog, this open-face variant is the newer iteration.
The watch features a 41mm case crafted in 18k white gold, which is home to an open-worked sapphire dial for a view of the movement inside the watch. Beneath the sapphire dial is the self-winding Caliber 2460 QCL/2, complete with anthracite NAC-treated main plate and bridges. This automatic movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour and supplies the watch with 40 hours of power reserve.
The movement is also stamped with the coveted Geneva Seal, which confirms that it was made in Geneva, Switzerland while adhering to a set of exceedingly high standards concerning the finishing and decoration of movement.
The back of the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Complete Calendar Openface watch is also furnished with a sapphire caseback for another perspective of the beautifully finished and masterfully engineered mechanical movement From this side, you can clearly see the striking 22k gold rotor and the brand’s famous Maltese Cross emblem, also crafted in 22k gold.
