Which Breitling Navitimer Is Right For You?

ARTICLE DATE 06/02/2017

The Breitling Navitimer is the pilot’s watch. Say what you will about the other usual suspects but you shouldn’t overlook this watch. This is especially true if you aren’t a fan of the Rolex GMT line or the Flieger DNA behind the IWC pilots. But, there are quite a few Navitimers and it can get confusing. However, that’s part of the Breitling charm. There is so much variety that there really is something for everyone in the Navitimer. So, we thought we’d share a handful of our favorites for you to consider.

Breitling Navitimer 01

Breitlings are big – no doubt about that. But the 01 comes in at a comfortable 43mm, which is easy to pull off for most people. While more subtle than other models, it retains all of the crucial functionality that makes it a true Navitimer. Go for the 01 if you’re more comfortable with a smaller size overall. The 01 also makes for a perfect everyday tool watch with just an extra hint of dressy-ness.

Breitling Navitimer Rattrapante

Breitling’s first in-house split second chronograph movement is a true work of art. It’s the perfect choice if you’re a fan of this extra complication as well. This is real Breitling history and while it might not be for everyone, this watch is sure to stand out from the crowd. Best part? You get an in-house split second chronograph movement for under $12k.

Breitling Navitimer GMT

Do you find yourself traveling often? Actually, do you pilot your own Gulfstream? The Breitling Navitimer GMT is the perfect choice for secondary time zone tracking on top of the usual Navitimer features. Also, at 48mm, it’s considerably larger than most of the other models and commands some serious wrist presence. This watch just about has it all unless you plan on going all out with our next pick.

Breitling Navitimer QP

Limited to just 25 pieces the Breitling Navitimer QP tracks the date, day, week, month, season, leap-year cycle, and moon phases. That’s a serious piece and one that can potentially hold the title of the “exit watch” for many collectors. While it may feel like you need a full-on WOSTEP certification to set the thing, this Navitimer proves itself as the top dog in the pilot watch lineup.
