Complete Overhaul REPAIR & SERVICE
Hublot Big Bang Chronograph
Gray & Sons Jewelers, located in Miami Beach, Florida is an independent watch service center, repairing Hublot Big Bang Chronograph watches since 1980.
An innovative watch that became a worldwide icon for watch collectors.
It is always stimulating to bring beauty back to such a wonderful timepiece.
Gray and Sons Jewelers has a very strong reputation in regards to repairing the impossible and bring back the original quality looks to all the watches that come through our workshop.
Water, humidity, dust, dirt, etc take every possible way to get into the movement and if that happens, the cost of the repair will be high.
Servicing a sports watch at least every other year keeps the value of the watch high and the cost of the maintenance low, safeguarding the movement and making sure it works for a very long time as we would expect from such a beautiful timepiece.
Most of our customers know us for many years and trust our master watchmakers with their valuable watches.
And because we treat them as family, I must say that most of our business comes from referrals from friends to friends, so the old-fashioned word of mouth is what keeps us running and on top of the game year after year.
Always a happy ending, it begins here!
Our Swiss-trained watchmakers and jewelers take every job with great passion, we have many meetings and discussions in regards to the best way to proceed and repair the watches that come into our shop and at a cost that made sense to the owner. Our teamwork, experience, and ingenuity keep challenging each one of us and we keep attending seminars and training school to be always at the top of the game and as one of the best service centers in the USA.
So, the process begins, the movement is removed and completely disassembled down to its bare components.
Parts will be put through a multiple-stage cleaning process that will use three different solutions to wash away dirt and old dried lubricants accumulated through the years.
We will look at all the parts and replace the damaged ones, then re-assemble the watch piece by piece, wheel by wheel, screw by screw, and apply four different synthetic oils to get the watch running perfectly, the old fashion way.
There are many shortcuts but we are old school, our goal is to make sure we follow the directions of the manufacturers in order to keep these magnificent movements running.
Meanwhile, our highly experienced jewelers will carefully work to detail and polish the watch to make it look new again. This is not an easy task as there are satin and shiny metal parts that need to be worked on as they were originally designed.
One of our Swiss-trained master watchmakers will look into the assembled movement and will replace all the gaskets to assure water resistance.
Our watchmakers are specialists in Swiss manufactured simple or complicated movements.
They have trained for years getting to know all the parts and how to better correct and prevent malfunctions and regulate the accuracy of timekeeping.
So, while the watch is being polished, the master watchmaker in charge will observe the movement work.
We, at Gray & Sons, only do this the way of the antique watchmakers, time-consuming, maybe, but we will make sure that it will keep time as it was designed to.
The movement is put together again to start working on the regulation, timekeeping accuracy, power reserve, and synchronization of all the parts involved for this magnificent movement to keep time.
Then the watch will be re-cased, and for the final checks, two specialists, separately, will test the power reserve of the movement manually, will also use winding wheels, and finally will use pressure testing machines to check for leaks on the seals and gaskets recently installed.
The watch is almost ready to be shipped back and as a final step, we will have another associate check everything all over again with new eyes and have these final tests done once more before we give it back to the happy owner.
A different story for sure, with the same ending, that our customers are used at Gray and Sons Jewelers: excellence in the work we do.
Our customers are our extended family and their recommendations are their way of thanking us for a job well done.

Hublot Big Bang is Hublot’s flagship timepiece. The revolutionary design turned this small and young company’s watch into a worldwide phenomenon, as Hublot clearly declares, the Big Bang is an evolution on watchmaking that turned into a revolutionary watch appreciated and recognized.
The Hublot Big Bang Evolution series saw its day view in 2005 Baselword Fair, being heralded as an immediate success by consumers and resellers alike. Uses an in-house Hublot movement designed to be robust and efficient with a very nice feature: it is hacking-seconds.
The seconds-hand stops when the crown is pulled out to "position 2", making for precise time-setting.
Also is if good to have the date function as quick-set.
The sides of the case are protected by a black kevlar which protects the case and movement from impacts, important in a sports watch.
Another good point is the Hublot straps, very well made, durable and comfortable, thick yet flexible, and easy to clean.

TIP of the day: It is good to know that the most common service call we get at the shop is due to winding the watch while wearing it, which causes an extreme bending force in the crown, stem, and automatic mechanism forcing an unnecessary repair completely out of warranty, and a close second to that one is that while winding it out of the wrist, dropping the watch to the floor, which in case of hard floors would be a disaster.
We always recommend winding the watch on top of a desk, bed, or table.
