The History of Omega Watches
La Generale Watch Co was originally founded in 1848 in the town of Bienne/Biel, Switzerland. What first began as a small watch repair company in a simple workshop quickly grew and expanded into the internationally-recognized watchmaking house that it is today. Formally incorporating the name Omega in 1903, world-renowned company is now owned by Swatch Group. From its classic models such as the Omega Seamaster and Omega Speedmaster to the more contemporary models like the Omega De Ville, each Omega watch has flawlessly maintained the brand’s unparalleled prestige and luxurious aesthetic.
While initially renowned for their intricate and game-changing watch movements, Omega quickly solidified its place as a household name and emblem of the world of luxury watches. In the late 1910’s Great Britain and the United States chose Omega as their official timekeeper for their respective Combat units, Marking the first of Omega’s many crowning achievements to come. They have also been the official timekeeper of the Olympic games since 1932, gracing the wrists of staff members and athletes alike for over 90 years. In 1969 Omega was honored in becoming the first watch on the moon, a true example of it’s mechanical performance.
Omega has been a mainstay in pop-culture for decades thanks to its iconic style and timeless aesthetic. You can see an Omega watch on the wrist of many public figures, including actors, United States presidents, pro-athletes and astronauts. From Presidents to pop culture icons to professional athletes, many great and recognizable men have worn Omega watches. Omega is one of the most recognizable and paramount brands in any collection. If you are a modern watch lover, you know and likely cherish at least one model from this influential brand.

“After searching the world for someone competent to refurbish my Omega watch, I finally found you. This watch went to the Omega service center in Miami, Nesbit's Fine Watch Service in Seattle, Washington, and finally to Omega headquarters in Biel/Bienne, Switzerland. Everyone refused to service the watch. You are a master at what you do. You are someone who respects the fine art of watchmaking. The watch looks gorgeous. I am so pleased. The watch now provides perfect time.
I am also grateful for the history you provided concerning Omega contract watches. It is refreshing to find someone who takes pride in their work. In the future, I will trust only you to service my watch. Thank you so very much for your service and the beautiful mahogany case.
Sincerely,
Frederick E. S.“
