REPAIR & SERVICE
Panerai Luminor Marina 40mm Power Reserve
Gray & Sons Jewelers, located in Miami Beach, Florida is an independent watch service center, repairing Panerai Luminor Marina 40mm Power Reserve watches since 1980.
Officine Panerai was founded in 1860, in Florence Italy. A number of other still-active luxury watch brands were also founded in that year: Heuer, Juvenia, and Chopard. Heuer, Juvenia, and Chopard were established in Switzerland. Panerai’s Italian heritage is unusual in the watch world, and the company was eventually moved to Switzerland in the late 1990’s, when it was acquired by the Vendome Group, now the Richemont Group. Along with A. Lange & Söhne, Baume & Mercier, Cartier, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Montblanc, Piaget, Roger Dubuis, Vacheron Constantin, and Van Cleef & Arpels, Panerai and the Richemont Group sit astride the luxury watch and jewelry world
Panerai’s great innovation, for which they were granted a patent, is the crown guard system that ensures that a Panerai crown will not open accidentally and allow water intrusion into the interior of the watch case. Since Panerai is known for its affiliation with the Italian Navy, and specifically its undersea special forces, this is in line with the Panerai brand. First introduced in 1950, this innovation is a distinctive Panerai profile for Panerai’s Luminor line of watches. The Panerai Luminor Marina 40mm Power Reserve PAM00125 shares this profile, albeit in a much smaller case (still large by the standards of most of modern wristwatch history). Powered by the Panerai Calibre OP IX movement (essentially a Valjoux 7750-P1 rebranded by Panerai), this watch features a power reserve indicator at the 4:00 position. The movement is rated for a 42-hour power reserve, but the indicator is calibrated for 40 hours, so you get two spare hours in the tank. The watch winds itself while you wear it, so with regular use, you may never get down to 0 anyway. Fun fact, for the left-handed version of this watch (44mm PAM00123 Luminor Marina Power Reserve Destro, larger but with the same movement inside the bigger case) Panerai just turned the movement upside down inside the watch, so on that model the power reserve indicator is at 10:00, the date window is at 9:00 and the sub-seconds dial is at 3:00. Everything is just reversed. Another distinctive feature of this particular model is the silver sub-seconds dial. Only a few Panerai models have displayed this variation, most notable the 44mm Panerai Luminor GMT PAM00088.
