Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712G Repair
Recently a new client walked into Gray and Sons Jewelers from Fisher Island (a very prestigious location in Miami, Florida) to service and restore his collection of 20 luxury watches! The whole collection needed overhaul repair, watch restoration, watch crystal replacement, watch straps, watch detailing, and watch polishing. The client wanted to do business with someone he can trust with his priceless collection. Gray & Sons 38 years of experience in fine watch repair, and in house European trained master watchmakers and jewelers gave the client peace of mind that his Swiss watches were in good hands. His collection consisted of unique and rare watches such as Patek Philippe, Rolex, Cartier, Audemars Piguet, Breguet, Frank Muller ! All the watches contained complicated movements such as chronograph, split seconds, dopple chronograph, tourbillon, annual calendar, perpetual calendar, and minute repeater.
Among the collection of watches was one in particular that had rusted, water entrance damage; a Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712G in 18k white gold. This movement comes with complicated features such as a 48-hour power reserve, subsidiary seconds, date, and a moonphase display. This luxury watch suffered from what most collectors fear the most, water entered the watch, unnoticed by the client and began to rust the movement and dial. Keep in mind the Patek Philippe Nautilus is currently one of the most collectable luxury watches in the world.
When it comes to fine watches, water entrance is the nightmare on Elm Street for collectors and watchmakers, especially on a elite watch like the Patek Philippe Nautilus 5712G. Many people and jewelers suggested the client to send it to Patek Philippe directly, but our client previously had a bad experience with Patek Philippe New York and Geneve and stated “ I would rather have the watch stay corroding in my safe instead.” As watch specialists Gray and Sons could not let this happen! We analyzed the Patek and found rust stains , water spots all over the dial; it had to be repainted and needed tremendous work. The movement was in very bad condition and had countless parts rusted throughout. Our swiss trained master watchmaker who has worked for Patek Philippe Geneve (as well as Vacheron Constantin and Richemont) went to work restoring , filing , and polishing wheels , pivots , and plates. In a matter of two months our client had his Patek Philippe Nautilus back on his wrist, running like it came straight from the factory and looking like the day he added it to his collection. Gray and Sons made it the start to a new beginning. We are happy to see another damaged, pre owned used watch left like new, completely overhauled , restored at Gray & Sons with the help from our extraordinary in-house swiss trained and experienced watchmakers.
Patek Philippe Repair Services
Patek Philippe Nautilus Reference 3800 - Patek Philippe Repair Without Peer
Patek Philippe, founded in 1845, is widely considered to be the top Swiss luxury watch in terms of quality, design, performance, and prestige. Some of its iconic models are the Patek Philippe Nautilus, the Patek Philippe Calatrava, the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse, the Patek Philippe Gondolo, the Patek Philippe Aquanaut, the Patek Philippe Twenty-4, and the Patek Philippe Grand Complications.
The Patek Philippe Nautilus was first introduced in 1976, designed by Gerald Genta following his previous triumphs in watch design; the Patek Philippe Ellipse, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and the Omega Constellation. Gerald Genta also designed the IWC Ingenieur, the Cartier Pasha de Cartier, and the Gerald Genta Octo (later acquired by Bvlgari). The Patek Philippe Nautilus Reference 3800/1 was released in 1981 following the success of the Patek Philippe Nautilus Jumbo Reference 3700. Whereas the Jumbo Nautilus 3700 measured 42mm, the Nautilus 3800 measured 37.5mm, more in line with the size of other watches of the time. The Patek Philippe Nautilus Reference 3800 was notable for several other reasons. This was Patek Philippe’s first Nautilus using an in-house Patek Philippe automatic movement, their Calibre 335 SC, whereas the previous model had incorporated a Jaeger-LeCoultre-based movement. The Nautilus 3800 featured a central second hand, which became a standard feature for later Nautilus models, a gold rotor, and a Gyromax balance wheel, all while retaining the design elements that distinguished the Nautilus from all other watches: The distinctive “grooved” dial, the monobloc case formed from a single piece of metal, and the rounded octagonal bezel.
