When we conduct an overhaul and refurbishment of a Rolex Masterpiece automatic watch, it requires a meticulous and time-consuming process. We first open the caseback to inspect for any signs of rust or damage that may necessitate replacement parts. In this case, the movement needed a thorough cleaning and re-lubrication, while the external case had unsightly scratches requiring expert polishing.
After assessing the watch and identifying any other necessary components, our skilled watchmaker carefully disassembles it piece by piece. The movement, crystal, stem and other parts are separated from the head and bracelet. Our watchmaker methodically takes apart the mechanism, evaluating each component. Any required replacement parts like screws, springs and pivots are noted. The components then undergo a thorough six-step ultrasonic cleaning process to remove all dirt, dust and oils.
Our watchmaker reassembles the movement, applying the proper lubrication as specified. This delicate process is time-intensive, depending on the complexity of the watch. While our watchmaker focuses on the movement, our polisher expertly removes case and bracelet scratches using a polishing wheel. The case and bracelet are then ultrasonically cleaned, rinsed and dried under a heat lamp.
After the movement is reassembled and the watch re-encased, final quality control begins. We rigorously test timekeeping accuracy and water resistance at simulated depths. All complications like the hands are checked for proper function. The watch runs on a winding wheel for 6-8 hours, simulating wrist motion. It then rests while running 24-48 hours more to verify performance. This comprehensive procedure ensures the automatic movement will keep accurate time when worn or stored.
Our diagnostics machine evaluates durability and function to confirm the movement withstands natural wrist motions. The full restoration process can take up to 8 weeks. Meticulous at every step, we ensure the serviced watch operates with the utmost precision when completely overhauled and refurbished by our experts.

We make sure to check all the boxes when quality controlling an item that will eventually acquire a new owner to enjoy. Every watch that comes into Gray and Sons Jewelers for repair will automatically receive a 12-month warranty once received by the customer post-repair. Rolex watches in particular receive a 24-month mechanical warranty.

Whenever they need to repair or replace an individual component, our watchmakers use Swiss parts. These components, whenever possible, come from the manufacturer. Sometimes our master watchmakers fabricate and refurbish parts that are not otherwise available to us to purchase from the manufacturer and they come from other sources.

We urge you to pick up your watch as soon as possible after receiving this notification. Please note that if a watch remains unclaimed 180 days after we provide written notice of its availability, Gray & Sons will not be held liable for any loss, provided you’ve authorized the repairs or service. Your timely response ensures your treasured timepiece is safely back in your hands.
