Gray & Sons Watch Repair Guide

Quartz Watch and Battery Service

Quartz watch service can involve more than a battery. Learn how cell condition, leakage, movement faults, case sealing, and parts shape the evaluation.

Quartz service is reference-specific

Battery type, resealing, gasket work, parts source, water testing, and service cadence are confirmed after identifying and inspecting the exact watch. No OEM/genuine-only source, factory-depth outcome, or fixed cycle is promised in advance.

FAQ: Do You Repair Quartz and Battery-Powered Luxury Watches?

Yes. At Gray & Sons Jewelers, we repair and service luxury quartz and battery-powered watches. While fine Swiss automatic and mechanical timepieces make up a substantial portion of our work, quartz movements—found in iconic luxury models like the Cartier Santos, Tank, and Panthère, Rolex Oysterquartz, Breitling Aerospace, Omega Constellation, and Patek Philippe Twenty~4—require equal precision, specialized technical care, and expert craftsmanship.

Since 1980, our Swiss-trained Master Watchmakers in Surfside/Miami, Florida, have provided end-to-end service for quartz timepieces, ranging from basic battery replacements to full electronic movement overhauls.

What Quartz Watch Services We Offer

Quartz timepieces are high-precision electronic instruments. Servicing them involves far more than simply dropping in a new battery. We offer a full spectrum of maintenance and restoration services for luxury quartz models:

1. Battery Replacement & Diagnostics

When a quartz-regulated watch stops or its hand/display behavior changes, a battery or power-system issue is one possibility. Some calibers use a movement-specific EOL indicator; verify the exact manual and diagnose the watch before selecting a battery or deeper repair.

When you bring or send your quartz watch to Gray & Sons:

  • We test circuit consumption and coil resistance before installation.
  • We identify the exact movement and use an appropriate, compatible battery specification approved for that watch.
  • We inspect the battery contact points for acid leakage or micro-corrosion.

2. Water Resistance & Gasket Resealing

When a case is opened, the applicable seals and sealing surfaces are evaluated; any proposed gasket or resealing work depends on condition, construction, availability, and approved scope.

  • We inspect and replace worn gaskets.
  • When appropriate, suitable seal lubrication or other seal work may be included, followed by the approved watch-specific test; no permanent water-tightness outcome is implied.
  • When suitable and included in the approved scope, we perform watch-specific water-resistance testing and report the method, level, and result at the time tested.

3. Complete Quartz Movement Overhaul & Circuit Repair

If the correct battery or power intervention does not restore operation, diagnosis may identify contacts, corrosion, a coil, circuit, stepping motor, gear train, module, contamination, damage, or another fault. The approved remedy can be targeted repair, complete overhaul, module/movement replacement, referral, or decline.

When diagnosis and the approved estimate call for a complete quartz movement overhaul, the scope may include:

  • Disassemble the movement to the depth required by the diagnosed and approved overhaul.
  • Clean components within scope using material- and movement-appropriate methods.
  • Inspect circuits, coils, and mechanical components and propose manufacturer/original, compatible, donor, refurbished, or other technically appropriate parts subject to availability, disclosure, and approval.
  • Reassemble, lubricate where applicable, and test against movement- and scope-specific acceptance criteria.

4. Case, Bracelet, & Aesthetic Restoration

In addition to internal movement repair, we provide comprehensive exterior care for quartz timepieces:

  • Micro-Polishing & Detailing: Multi-stage satin and high-gloss polishing to remove deep scratches while preserving original case lines.
  • Ultra-Sonic & Steam Cleaning: Deep ultrasonic submersion and high-pressure steam cleaning to eliminate buildup in bracelet links.
  • Crystal & Crown Replacement: Sapphire or acrylic crystal replacement and original crown repairs.
